From balloon animals, face painting, string games, yo-yos, skipping and flip chart Bible stories with tapes playing in their
own language, we are hoping to do some street ministry and to work with local Sunday Schools.
The Haitian church has asked us to run seminars on women's ministry -- leaders from all over the country will come to us (we will set up and run workshops, training, etc.)
Alan Neff will be holding hearing clinics. He would like this to be a long-term commitment, five years or longer. The clinics involve hearing testing and much more. The end result would be that nationals are trained to do hearing health care. During this first trip there will be a lot of fact finding, perhaps testing of children at the School for the Deaf (Alan has specifically been asked to do this by the Catholic Church).
There is no cost for the service or equipment. Alan will be contacting corporations for funding for the hearing aids.
There is one ear doctor at Port-Au-Prince, but hearing aids cost about $2,000 US and are only accessible to rich folks. We are not going into that market at all but only to the poor folks, and into a different part of the country.
Alan will have one or more persons working with him. Alan will need one local translator. Richard Oliam (leader of our 40 Haitian
UB churches) would like a two-or-three-day hearing clinic. Alan plans to take some hearing aids to provide for the people.
Working with a local Campus Crusade contact and the churches, we will be doing 1-2 shows in 2-3 communities. Our role is set up, advertising, a few testimonies. The local churches will be doing counselling and follow up.
